There are many different types of water filtration systems on the market to choose from. As you are thinking about purifying your water, here are some types of filtration systems you may find:
·Whole house filtration systems
·Under the counter water filtration systems
·Counter top filtration system
·Faucet mount filters
·Sports bottles with filters in them
·Filtered water pitchers
·Shower water filters
·Hand held shower water filters
·Refrigerator water filters
You can see by the above list that you need to have a basic knowledge of the types before you shop. It’s not as easy as just going online and ordering the first one you find.
Following are some basic descriptions of the types of brands.
Whole house filtration systems are the most expensive, because they filter more water than the others. These filters filter all the water that comes into your house. If you are not handy with tools you can call your plumber up to install one of these, but they are really not all that complicated to install. Installations instructions come with most models.
Under the counter water filtration systems are installed under your kitchen sink. This system requires a separate faucet; where the counter top system connects to the faucet you already have on your sink. Faucet mount systems also mount on your existing faucet.
The sports bottles with filters and the filtered water pitchers are portable systems. You can take them wherever you want. If you don’t have a refrigerator with filtered water built into it, these are also nice to have in your fridge for instant cold, refreshing pure water to drink.Well Chlorination
Shower water filters, and hand held shower filters are used in the shower as you bathe. The hand held one attaches to your hand held shower if you have one, and the other one attaches to the water pipe that comes out of the wall. Both of these are easy to install, even if you are not a tool guru.
Refrigerator water filtration systems are attached to the water supply that goes to your automatic ice machine in your refrigerator’s freezer. Most companies that sell you your refrigerator will hook this up for you when they deliver your refrigerator. Most all of these you purchase now have access to water without opening the door. I think the early models you had to open the fridge door to get access, but that has been improved, so you aren’t losing all your precious cold air while you fill your glass.
A couple additional things to know about water filtration systems are:
· Reverse osmosis water filtration and distilled water – With these you are filtering out all the minerals in the water. The good thing about this is, if the reverse osmosis system also has a carbon filter, it also filters out all the contaminants known to be in water, but the de-mineralized water you end up with becomes acidic. When we drink de-mineralized water, the water will actually pull minerals, primarily calcium out of our bodies to try to balance itself.
· Carbon filters – With a carbon filter, especially those that combine carbon filtration, ion exchange and sub micron filtration, all contaminates are filtered out, plus the minerals stay in keeping your water balanced.
